Unless of course the “facts” are supplied by someone with a vested interest.
Take this study that concludes:
“The use of glutamic acid and glutamates as food additives, therefore, results in free glutamate intakes very similar to those from natural sources and makes a marginal contribution to total intakes of glutamate from all sources.” SOURCE
Here’s my conclusion: This study was bought and paid for!
Consider this information from the bottom of the study:
“Acknowledgement
Analytical data and data from scientific literature on occurrence of free glutamate in foods were supplied by the UIC. http://www.umamiinfo.com/umamidb/.”
My Comments:
The Umami Information Center was created in 1982 to promote “Umami” information (think MSG). The current Chairman is Takashi Yamamoto. Takashi Yamamoto is listed as one of the inventors on SEVERAL patents where the Applicant is Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (SOURCE) Now Ajinomoto just happens to be the original manufacturer of high volume Manufactured free Glutamates, and also currently the world’s largest supplier of MSG.
“Ethics Statement

My Comments:
Really? So, you really didn’t know that the people who funded the study AND supplied you with the data for this “Study” did not have a horse in the race?
“Disclosure Statement
The author has no conflicts of interest to declare.”
My Comments:
Same as Ethics above. Strike two.
“Funding Sources
Research was funded by Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (Tokyo, Japan). The Workshop preparation, setting, and attendance were supported by the International Glutamate Technical Committee (IGTC), Brussels. The views of the author are his own, and do not necessarily reflect those of the IGTC.”
Need I say more?
Strike Three! You’re out!
